The Jungle Book was first published in 1894. It has been adapted for stage musicals, TV, and movies on more than one occasion, with the most recent remake bringing Rudyard Kipling's story to life on the big screen for 2016. Fans of Kipling's original work may be disappointed by Disney's new version - their version is heavily truncated and omits parts of the story that are central to the author's philosophy. Akela is killed by Shere Khan, leaving Mowgli to find his own way in the wild. Baloo begins to teach him about the ways of the jungle, but it isn't long before Shere Khan catches up with them and Baloo is tempted to escape with his young cub. Jungle Book is a 3D computer-animated film produced by Walt Disney Animation Studios. The film was released on April 15, 2016 in Germany and on April 16, 2016 in the United Kingdom. The release date for the United States is April 15, 2016. The Jungle Book was released digitally on November 16, 2016 and physically on December 6, 2016.On February 6, 2015, it was announced that Jon Favreau would both direct "The Jungle Book" and write the screenplay for the film. It was also announced that production had begun on an animated film version of "The Jungle Book", which Favreau confirmed to be referring to his own project. The film is scripted by Justin Marks based upon an earlier draft by screenwriter Mark Kennedy that is inspired by Rudyard Kipling's eponymous book. Favreau had been wanting to adapt the book for some years. In August 2015, Favreau stated that "we're just kind of starting from scratch with it" and that he hopes to use his home state of Vermont as a location. In September 2015, Favreau revealed that, while his adaptation would be based upon the 1964 animated movie and the Kipling book, the film would be a retelling of some elements from Kipling's original story.
